JUDGE REJECTS PLEA DEAL, TRIAL DATE SET FOR DEC. 12
A Baltimore judge rejected a plea deal Wednesday for Gervonta Davis, who is charged in a hit-and-run crash that injured four people in 2020, according to attorneys involved in the case. The trial date has been set for December 12th. He's facing 14 counts which include four counts of failing to return and remain at the scene of a crash involving bodily injury. He faces up to 7 years in prison. What does this mean for Davis? Will this affect his potential end of the year matchup with Ryan Garcia? Possibly. It definitely isn't a good look for him. Boxing media/fans are waiting for more details to come out about how bad this is going to become for Davis boxing wise.
What we do know:
- The crash happened around 2 a.m. on November 5, 2020. Davis was allegedly driving his 2020 Lamborghini Urus SUV at a high speed in downtown Baltimore, when he ran a red light and crashed into a mid-sized Toyota.
- Davis was caught on camera committing the crime, so there's no chance he skates on the charges.
- 3 of the 4 victims settled with Davis outside of court. The one victim that didn't was pregnant at the time and suffered a serious knee injury, that will affect her for the rest of her life, along with other "physical issues". She claims she pleaded for help from Davis, only to be ignored as he fled the scene.
- Davis was originally offered a plea deal in March, that would have had him serve 4 months in prison. He rejected that deal. The new deal that the prosecution and Davis agreed upon that was rejected included a 1 year suspended sentence, 2 months of home confinement, and ZERO jail time.
Lets hope that this doesn't interfere with a potential Tank Davis vs Ryan Garica tilt supposedly scheduled for December. Davis wont be the first high profile athlete/celebrity not to get a slap on the wrist, he won't be the last.
